Washington D.C. started off very bumpy. I missed my train and had to take a longer one to get there — 26 hours versus the original 18 hours.
I enjoyed a bed for the first time in days and woke up to a pretty view of the country side. Amtrak first class was quite a change to what I had gotten used to the nights before. Although it was nice on the train, I never felt like I belonged. I was easily half the age of everyone onboard and probably the only one who hadn’t been married for 20 years. But I did enjoy a couple of good meals and took plenty of naps. (more…)
Tonight my buddy Alan and I decided that he would teach me how to properly cook steak. If you have heard me rambling on or seen me pacing in the meat aisle… it’s because I have been wanting to cook steak for so long. I took the passenger seat this time around and let Alan take the wheel. We cooked steak, potatoes and green beans.
I am hungry and I also want to do some recording… I ended up filming dinner. This is the kind of compromise I can deal with.
Video Notes:
White balance is off for a bit of it, probably causing the food to look mutant. I shot the video of course with my Nikon D5000 and a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens. I used my $15 dollar ebay gorilla pod for the first time. It all worked quite well All videos are untouched.
So I have been struggling with quite a few things in life lately so it took me a lot longer than expected. I recorded this on the trolley awhile ago and have finally gotten around to editing it. I almost scrapped the project entirely a few times because I lost hope. I just had to remember that I am not proud of the first images I ever took so it will be the same for video for quite some time. I guess this gives me a reason to grow.
I could not decide between black / white and color. So here are both.
Video Notes:
I have nothing but empathy for those who stride to create videos, those who are create just for themselves and don’t care about what other people think of their work. When it came down to it and why it took so long I was just embarrassed of this project because I smelled failure before I even started to edit. I used Final Cut Pro for everything. No editing to the actual clips besides making the clips B/W and opacity on a clip or two.
My heart goes out to those who create for themselves.
